|
|
Hi guys!
I own an Altec Lansing AVS500 4.1 Speakers Set for almost 4 years.
I don't consider myself as an audiophille and I'm quite satisfied with my current set.
But...I just saw a deal in a local computer store where I can get the Logitech X-530 5.1 Speakers Set for $75. Usually the price is Israel for this set is like $100.
So I'm thinking about upgrading my current Altec Lansing Set with the Logitech X-530.
My current Altec Lansing set has 7W per Speaker (14W per channel) and 14W for the Sub-Woofer.
The Logitech Set has 7.4W Per Channel/Speaker, 15.5W for the Center and 25W for the Sub-Woofer.
Will it really be an upgrade (or maybe a downgrade)?
Will I see any difference/improvement?
In general, will it be a wise choice, or will it be just a waste of money and should I stay with my current Speakers Set?
I'll appreciate you advice... _________________ Intel Quad-Core Q6600 G0 @3.4GHz (8x425)

Judging by the reviews, I think it would be an upgrade, whether it's worth $75 is a question only you can answer.
Are you unhappy with your current speakers? If so, why? Are these speakers primarily for gaming, music or movies? If you use them mostly for gaming I wouldn't bother switching. When it comes to music you could definitely do a lot better, but then even the x-530's are probably at the bottom end. For movies, it's a toss up, but the addition of a center channel would probably help. _________________

One advantage of going 5.1 is you do get that center-front speaker where, IIRC, dialog in movies and games are outputted.
You might also want to check if you current sound card/chip is already maxed out by your Altec or can be put to better use by the Logitech...

OK guys. I ended up buying today the Logitech X-530 Speakers Set.
And...they ROCK!!! The sound they make is much better than my previous Altec Lansing AVS500 4.1.
And don't forget that now I have 5.1 instead of 4.1. That additional Center adds A LOT to the sound/atmosphere mainly when watchig movies.
Also the sub has much deeper bass!
I mainly game on the PC, while I watch movies mainly in my living room, but sometimes when the wife sleeps, now I'll be able to fully enjoy 5.1 surround (including center) also when watching movies on my PC.
So...I'm happy I think I made the right choice...
Thanks for your help and advice guys!!! _________________ Intel Quad-Core Q6600 G0 @3.4GHz (8x425)

Thanks!
BTW, I wanted to hear sound from all 6 speakers even when playing Stereo MP3 File, so I went to 'Control Panel-->Sound-->Speakers-->Properties-->Dolby Tab' and checked the 'Dolby Prologic IIx' checkbox. Now I'm able to hear sound from all 6 speakers even when playing stereo file. Is that the right way to do it?
Oh...And I totally forgot about it. I have an old Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Sound Card lying around (the non-ZS version, meaning no golden contacts). This is exactly the card I have:
Do you think I should install it? Will it provide better sound that my current onboard Realtek I have on my Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P? _________________ Intel Quad-Core Q6600 G0 @3.4GHz (8x425)

Now I'm thinking of ditching my Creative Inspire 2500 for a Logitech X-230.
Your mobo has a Realtek 889. Seems respectable. But I'm guessing even that ol' Audigy2 will sound better. You'll only know if you try |

Thanks. I'll surely give it a try (this coming weekend). _________________ Intel Quad-Core Q6600 G0 @3.4GHz (8x425)

Thanks for the info anonemus.
I think I'll give the Augidy at least a try, as at the bottom line, it's really up to me to decide which sound card to use (the Audigy 2 or the onboard one).
I'll see if I can notice any difference and/or improvement in sound using my Audigy 2 over the onboard one, and if so, I'll keep it. If not, I'm not going to put it there just to collect dust and block the airflow to my Video Card...
Thanks again, I'll keep you updated... _________________ Intel Quad-Core Q6600 G0 @3.4GHz (8x425)
