@Jason-- sorry for linking to different site. I didn't search through BB first. I heard about the new WD drive through their podcast.

I gave the wrong info, I think. The WD drive that's almost as fast as the Velociraptors are their new Enterprise series (RE4), not the consumer-level Green Drives.

Is it true that WD offers 5-year warranty while the others only 3-years?

Depends if you buy retail or OEM... You can get 5-years from at least WD and Seagate.

i think some WD's HDs do have 5 year warranty while some of their HD actaully only 3 years. I think it depends on the models.

Last month I RMAd a 4-year old drive to Seagate Singapore. It came back after a few days. I sure hope WD's RMA practice is just as efficient...

i like WD better because you can have them send the HD to you first and then you send your defective unit to them. I have never used seagate warranty so I can't comment on how efficiency it is but WD is more convenient.

I have purchased 2 Seagate 120GB sata drives that have run strong for six years. Four Seagate 400GB Sata 2.0 drives, one arrived DOA and was swifty and easily replaced through seagate. I run two Western Digital VelociRaptor 300GB drives in raid 0. Both companies are make very well created products. Whichever your choice, it should be a good one.

I've been a WD user for as long as I ever built computers. Very reliable. I recommend you get the Black 1TB hard drive. Top-notch performance, but a bit noisy.

I got the WD black 640GB last week and its works great. I have never had a WD drive go out on me.
