Thinking about grabbing a graphics card but hearing ATI will come out with a DX11 card by end of year. Anyone think DX11 will bring big improvement to gaming?

I would wait to see what games are slated to take advantage of DX11. Remember all those gamers who bought vista + 8800 GTX's in anticipation of playing Crysis under DX10 and couldn t even run it on high. The only reward for being an early adopter is the privilege of paying to beta test the bleeding edge =P

Never worth waiting for new technology IMO. The only reason I wait for the new stuff (especially when it comes to hardware and more especially when it comes to video cards) is the price drops on the older stuff.

I would guess it will be a while before we start to see DX11 games.

If you "need" a new card now go out and get it, it'll be awhile before any sort of games are released to support DX11 in any quantity.............Wink

Depends on what card you have now. I have a 8800GT and even though i'll be upgrading everything else soon, i'm going to put the graphics card on hold till DX11 starts becoming popular.

there's still not a ton of stuff that takes advantage of DX10/10.1

You can be sure the DX11 cards will come with a hefty price tag, so if it were me, I'd grab one when you needed it.

I have a 4870 and the wife has an 8800GT and they both run pretty much everything we throw at 'em with all the eye candy on...and they're both fairly inexpensive

I would wait for the next gen cards and if there aren't to your liking ( why would they) then get something that is current. They should get cheaper when the next lineup of new cards are out.
