I'm planning to replace my 9800GT Sonic 512mb GDDR3 256bit with 2 x HD4650 512mb GDDR3 128bit in crossfire configuration..

Is it worth the change??

Will it be faster??

I would stay with your current setup. Crossfire (and SLI) configurations have their own quirks compared to single card setups. The performance boost rarely goes above an additional 50%, and some games don't deal with dual card setups well. I had a Geforce 6800 Ultra SLI combo a few years back and had to disable SLI for a few games to get them stable.

If you do go Crossfire, make sure the cards are at least as fast as your current one. I'm pretty sure the HD4650 is marginally slower than the 9800GT. You would see some performance improvement with 2x HD4650 when Crossfire performs optimally, but not that much probably.

I would stick with what you have. I believe I read that two 4670's in crossfire are roughly the performance of a 4850/9800gtx. A pair of 4650's would be a bit slower which would put you right back around the performance of you 9800 gt. You also introduce more potential headaches with a multi-GPU setup. I am guessing you are looking to spend around $120 for the pair of 4650's. For that same budget you can be within $10-$20 of a HD 4850 which would give you more consistant performance. Even that isn't a huge upgrade from your 9800gt so you may want to keep saving for a while.

Going wtih crossfire will require a motherboard with 2 PCIe slots. If your current motherboard has a single PCIe slot, I would just upgrade to a HD4870 or something similar. You will not see crossfire performance with every games.
