I've been using XP for awhile, recently tried out SP3 no problems. But I've been thinking be it in the back of my mind finally dropping some cash and getting Vista. I usually just surf around, play a few games. I have a decent system so it won't be a problem. My main reasons are for DX10, more than 4GB of ram, and to learn the OS. But I'm not sure if it's going to be more of a headache than it's worth at this present moment. Any comments or suggestions to those who use it would be rather nifty.

Well, there are two things I would suggest.

1. Make sure all your hardware is supported by drivers under Vista. This is probably one of the No. 1 headaches when migrating a system to Vista. Especially if you have older hardware (Printers, Webcam, Mice, Speciality Keyboard, etc).

2. Check if there are known compatibility issues with your software. Like drivers this is a major headache. If all your software is the latest version, you are more than likely golden. If you have software that is more than a few years old, be aware you could have to upgrade or try running the application in Windows XP compatibility mode, and/or as an admin.

That all being said, I personally love Vista. I know I'm in the minority, but I like how it looks and feels.

There are lots of new tweaks you can do to improve things. So if you like how it looks, but something annoys you, don't jump on the "Vista sucks" bandwagon. Look for the work around; such as shutting off the UAC (which is a pain in the @ss but good for those morons that click OK on every pop-up). And if your system doesn't perform great, turning off Aero.

I don't use much as far as software, besides messengers and a few games. Only software I think I'd have a hard time is for my sound card. Creative Audigy 2 ZX platinum pro. I know there are 64-bit drivers for it, but I've heard bad things about creatives 64 bit drivers.

I normally don't use MS for much other than a bit of gaming, I run Linux for everything else pretty much.

But I am going to upgrade to Vista here in the near future though, mainly because I took part in the MS Windows Feed Back Program and I'm getting a copy of Vista Ultimate for nothing. If it wasn't for that, I honestly think Vista is worth the cash output.

Vista is fine.My vista 32 bit install gives me less errors than XP.I think, games should be played in XP ( except the DX10 games ) because they seem to run a bit faster than Vista. But you can happily switch to Vista. As you would like to use the 4 GB of ram, you need to install Vista 64 only.Best of luck. I would probably do a clean install instead of an upgrade. That way, you can dual boot.

Crysis isn't really that great of a reason to upgrade to Vista. It isn't like it is Vista exclusive. Also, in Vista, your frame rates drop quite a bit and you have to tone down a lot of the options just to get it running smooth (depending on your resolution).

What are you going to use 4GB of ram for?
