This seems to be an older story with recent developments... I am just reading it all today.
Apparently one user got tired of Creative's poor drivers for Windows and found he could fix them on his own. He did and people loved them.
But then Creative was pissed instead of happy to get free work they were obviously incapable of and threatened him!
The Story
The Response from the Driver Modder
This is from a Creative Vice President...
Quote: | By enabling our technology and IP to run on sound cards for which it was not originally offered or intended, you are in effect, stealing our goods. |
They admit that features were removed from certain cards when used in Vista, and bugs were ignored, no doubt in order to try to force an upgrade.
Wow!

I had read the same story. I was amazed by their statements.
What a crock of poop. They are also attacking ASUS for their new sound card lineup. Hopefully we will start to see more competition on the soundcard front. _________________

Yea, it has been years since I bought a sound card (although I do still use the one I got for a review from Auzentech). The last one I owned (before the Auzentech) was a Creative, and I had all sorts of issues with it I just gave up on them and went to on board sound as well. Has worked out great for me since then.
Unless something really changes in the sound world, I see no reason to switch over to a sound card over on board. It does the job for me |

ASUS' PMP is a good reason... rip good copies of DRM protected files to unrestricted use files... |

Yep, the last sound card I bought was an Auzentech. 15$ for 7.1 SPDIF ouput, pricewise it was definitely worth it - and it sounds great too!
I've had problems with their drivers too, but that's probably only because I messed around with them a lot to get into the 44khhz (or whatever it is) high fidelity rendition mode...
The creative cards might still be good for the musicians (the really high end ones) but for everybody else, you should get a KillerNIC card instead... or a PhysX |
