This seems to be an older story with recent developments... I am just reading it all today.
Apparently one user got tired of Creative's poor drivers for Windows and found he could fix them on his own. He did and people loved them.
But then Creative was pissed instead of happy to get free work they were obviously incapable of and threatened him!

They admit that features were removed from certain cards when used in Vista, and bugs were ignored, no doubt in order to try to force an upgrade.
