I have a Power Angel, which is like the Kill-A-Watt... I plan to connect that to my folding rig when I do shut down because I am wondering what it is costing me.

Can you take the amount you spent on electricity for Folding and call it a charitable deduction? Laughing - Might be like writing the Cancer Society a big check on a farm like yours!

Well... I got motivated and downloaded the new (CD) version. Back up and running with the system even quieter, and hooked up to the Power Angel.

Apparently full steam ahead only draws 176W! Not bad. I could probably improve that greatly without hurting performance by pulling the video card and 4 of the 6 (2.6V) DDR sticks. It has 4GB installed, 2x 1GB and 4x 512MB... the four little sticks might take a hike.

Even now... 176W is about 64 cents per day.

Just checked my latest electric bill and it is formatted different than I remember. There is a generation service fee of $0.099351/KWH and a delivery fee of $0.052556/KWH! Wow... 15 cents per KWH?!?

I've often wondered what it costs to leave my system running 24 hours...might have to look into one of the Kill-A-Watt items...would be interesting to know.

Oooh, so we'll go after universities now, ehh? I see Texas A&M, Rochester Institute of Technology, and Purdue could all be passed soon... Could use some more Folding firepower people! Grin

What work unit is it? The reason I ask is that 5% in 3hrs. equates to about 36minutes a percentage and seems kind of sloooooooooooooow. At stock with a quad and smp client you should be seeing something in the range of 11min-14min a percentage depending on the actual protein being folded.
