Oh, I am going to have to try that Folding stick. I have that Quad Opteron system sitting in the corner that hasn't been run in months. Mostly because I don't want to configure an OS.

It was amazingly simple. The directions were ok. I did notice that when editing the sysconfig file that there are several places that need the username and team number changed. It wasn't obvious in notepad though because there was no word wrap. Anyway, once I set the mobo's up to boot the key and enabled them to get access in ipcop the systems booted up detected the 64bit multicore cpu's, downloaded the right core and started folding. Even keeping tabs on it's progress is easy, just input the machines ip address and up pops a simple html page with log and unit info. It was the simplest F@H install I've done to date.

Get that quad going so we can break into the top 500 Grin Grin

I think it is running... It shows this:

Quote:
SMP instance per 4 CPUs

Instance 1

So... Do I just need the one instance if it knows there are 4 CPUs?

I see the Folding machine has been added to the machines in my Windows Network which is very cool for accessing the HTML pages and log files.

I wound up doing a boot CD version, and gave it a USB flash drive to write to.

It said it didn't need a keyboard or monitor, but on boot up it asked me to select a version (32 or 64 bit, and if I wanted to benchmark). I'd love to set this thing in a closet and just plug it in, but don't know if I have to answer that question every time... Confused

I rebooted and saw that it will auto-select the option after 15 seconds... And it did pick 64-bit and get right back to work. Now to hide this thing somewhere.

Very cool!

One instance opens 4 threads so your good there. Also it should choose the 64bit smp core automatically after 15seconds, so there is no input required. The only thing is that you need to avoid turning the computer off while it's accessing the usb drive. Other than that you should be good to go.

*looks like you already figured it out Grin *

Have you tried a reboot through the web interface?

I clicked it, but nothing happened after about a minute, so I rebooted with the case's button.

The flash drive I gave it doesn't have LEDs... Maybe it waits til it isn't writing to reboot?

No, I haven't. I've been using the interface to kill the client and then shutting down with the power buttons.

WOOT! WOOT! WOOT!

BB.com just passed 2 million points!!!!!!

It's about more than the points, but a little competition never seems to hurt. For those who didn't know or may have forgotten, here's a quick rundown of some of the reasons to run folding@home

Cancer, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, Huntington's and Osteogenesis Imperfecta.

We need to start a Folding rivalry with some other site. The team radar shows a good target...

Club OC is 9 spots ahead of us and scheduled to be overtaken in 13 days... Evil Banana
