Funny thing is, I have written bots for IRC rooms before, and you have to manually type in replies for situations. So either they were REALLY lazy and just got a generic bot from somewhere and overlooked the response to "eat my", or one of their programmers just got fired.

No, the response was due to saying 'pizza' to the bot. Some people in the UK found out and the Register picked it up where AP got a hold of it after El Reg had notified Redmond. By the time the AP had it, the bot was shut down since they couldn't repair the thing in a manner that removed the auto-sex.
