Been following the discussion on dual displays. Any reason why the second display couldn't be a data projector? How can I tell if my notebook video output will only mirror the dispay or is capable of showing a separate picture ( It isn't here at present - lent it to my daughter, so need to find out by asking her to check!).
If the notebokk can't handle dual - is there a card I can buy - I see lots advertised for desktops but nothing for notebooks)

the guys here in the office use dual projectors to screen demos of software that requires 2 screens. They use their laptops 100% of the time but they also use some top end laptops with good video cards (Dell M70). As such, I know that what you want is possible, but withut the information as to your type of laptop or projector(s) provided, I can only tell you that the theory is sound. Your mileage may vary.

If your notebook doesnt have two outgoing monitor ports, you could use something like this to split the connection:

With a splitter like that you're doing just that, splitting the signal. That means you can only have a single reciplicated image. You could, for instance, have a computer displaying to a monitor facing behind a desk and at the same time output through a projector onto a screen behind you. Also the splitter might weaken the signal so it wouldn't look as great.

Unless you have 2 outgoing ports on the laptop, you probably can't run dual display or expanded desktop.
