Hi adrenaline.rush - welcome.

First thing I see is a problem with all memory listed. You will need DDR2 for both systems... YOu may find some kind of motherboard for that D805 that could use DDR, but you will probably wind up with a DDR2 board if you want performance, and therefore you are going to need all new memory.

I generally don't plan upcoming builds around technology that isn't out yet for two reasons... You never know if they'll hit their dates and the prices are generally insane when first released. I haven't even heard much about Geforce8... But Conroe does seem to be where it is at for CPU power!

Also, which OS/OSes are you planning to run? I'm honestly getting the feeling that AMD is going to be more "on the ball" for running with Vista.

Could be wrong, will have to take a wait and see approach on this.

you are never going to hit with an 805

a) 3.5 on a stock cooler
and/or
b) with DDR2100

You need to be at a 200MHz FSB to hit 3.5 and that RAM only runs at 133

I wish I could just pick overclocked speeds before I even buy the gear... and then actually hit them once delivered. Grin

well there is that too. I didn't buy the 805 with the intent of o/cing it. I bought it because it was a ridiculously affordable dual core CPU. the overhead on the thing is the bonus.

Sometimes I wonder if guys like Tom do more harm than good buy publishing articles like This

Other than what's already been said, I'd recommend a second HD. 72gb is not that much space, especially if you plan to have several games, and other utilities on the system.

I think on my game system, I have three games, office and photoshop, and I'm around 60gb.

Guess it really depends on which games you'll be playing...

"OC" and "stock cooler" should never be used in the same sentence...Unless you're saying soemthing like I am here, or if you are saying "Never try to OC with a stock cooler"...

Just my opinion.
