Now I am scared!

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. will start selling build-your-own-computer components in more than one-third of its U.S. discount stores this month as it looks for ways to tempt shoppers to buy more than just low-margin food.

Thats cool... saves on cost of buying a fab'd unit.. plus local PC techs will be busy fixing or finalizing the home built kits. ...might be a chance for some of us to make a lil extra cash.
One of my fondest memories of Wal-Mard is buying a halogen lamp, based on the labels that said Halogen Lamp in big yellow letters, and finding out it's incandescent. I really wonder what kind of parts (and brands) you get to choose from in those "build-your-own"...
I bet they'll label all the AMD stuff as a Pentium, call the monitors computers and the cases will become modems. And let's not forget that they'll no doubt partner with AOL so you can hae some more free CDs to turn in to mosaic tile.
I bet they WOULD partner with AOL... The "sandbox" model would certainly please them, since they like to censor games and such.
We've had a local Wal-mart for year now, but I don't know anyone who actually shops there or will admit to. There's a computer store on every block downtown, so if people actually start to go to Wal-mart for computer parts, then it will pretty much cause downtown to be deserted.
It still seems like a silly idea to me - modders care about brand and appeal, Wal-mart sells cheap american crap. I really wonder what brands they'll get in there.
