Just completed my first day on the new job.. finished up a work order to replace 3 spans of cable(wet pairs) and an old rotted pole.
text in drawing may be blurry to you at anything less then 1920x1440, ALLTEL likes it bold so that their printer can make a noticable difference between existing and new action.

A phone cable is made up of 1-3000 pairs of copper wires, a pair (2) wires is needed to make a phone line work. One wire is Tip the other is Ring, ...trans and receive. The pair carries -48vdc to power your phone and when it rings a Ringing Generator at the Central Office or remote switch pumps in a low ampere 105vac 30hz pulse current over top of the -48vdc current.
A wet pair is when the lines have water in them, which typical cause static, grounding and sometimes a little cross-talk(induction). You can play hell to get even low frequency RF thru a wet pair, let alone the higher frequency DSL and T-Span service to work. |

Awesome, knight! |
LOL!! yep..
Back in Jan '96 the valley in WV I was working in flooded due to 10ft of snow melting.. well it washed out a pole line that was carrying open wire. One of the lineman had the bright idea of wading across the creek to drag the lines back to the other side, but he was holding them in his mouth while using he hands to hold on the rope so he didn't get washed away.
Wouldn't you know it, someone dialed that line while he was about 2/3 the way across that creek. I've never ever seen a man dance like that before or since in 4ft of water. |
