I know I asked Blue|Fusion a question like this regarding the server, but that was a while ago... And it was for the server. Now I have a regularly used machine at home with CentOS and SATA drives... Every boot up / shut down I see "smartd failed".

I know they didn't support SATA drives, but thought they might now. Any idea?

Also... Would it hurt to just turn smartd off?

Thanks!

Apparently they need to update some stuff to be able to use smartd with SATA drives (Hmmmm how long as SATA been out? And yet the open-source community hasn't ported everything over to support them yet???).

You can turn it off though, it's just to monitor the SMART features of the HDDs. You just won't get a warning if the HDD's are failing is all.

I turned it off... Speeds up boot a bit, and makes it look cleaner by keeping that big red FAILED off the screen.

System only has SATA drives, so nothing is going to be monitored anyway... Bang Head
