The aluminum enclosure has a sleek and classic look to it, with a black mirror finish and chrome colored accents. On the one side it shows the logo and the connection labels. The reverse side is blank except for four little rubber feet, if you decide to lay it flat. Once you turn the unit on, the Vantec logo on the front of the enclosure will flash when the hard drive is accessed. - The Review

Hi BigBruin! Thanks for the great review of the NexStar 3 enclosure. Based partly on this review, I decided to purchase it.

In my instance, there are a couple of issues I'd like to note about the activity LED. For one, it appears that it doesn't blink when using eSATA. And in my unit, the light actually doesn't blink when the unit is closed up. I'm guessing that mine has a defect that shorts a connection or something, so I get no activity LED (even on USB2) unless I pull the cover off a milimeter or more. Strange.

I've already contacted Vantec about this problem. I don't really want to have to RMA it, but c'est la vie. I could probably just live without a blinky light at the end of the day Razz

Bummer that sucks that you got a defective one. I still have this in operation and can verify it does blink when being accessed through eSATA and USB2. In fact had to cover the light when my system does it's nightly backup at 3AM LOL That blinking started waking me up...
