When I was in tech school, I bought a 1970 toyota HiLux pickup for 200 bucks.

It had no title, throttle cable, dipstick, back window, paint, or rear brakes. It did have one front brake however.

I drive this thing for a year or so and finally we decided to take it up in teh mountains and destroy it.

We rolled it twice, jumped it many times, and ripped both doors off using trees and high speed backward passes.

Finally one tie rod broke and we couldnt steeer with both front wheels, so we tied it to a tree, put it in 4th gear and tied the carb open. Ten minutes later of over redline running we got bored waiting for it to fail and I hit the valve cover with a sledge, broke one rocker arm and bent a pushrod...

It still ran (lower R%PM however) after 5 more minutes of waiting we chopped the radiator with an axe.

It ran for almost 10 more minutes and finally it siezed hard.

Then we backed up a few 100 feet and shot at the gas tank with a 300 Winchester. It never did blow up, we ran out of bullets.

This is the reason I bought a 2000 Toyota Tacoma with 50k miles... I figure I have a good 300k left before I need to open the hood.

Bhaaaa... I've had nothing but problems with Toyota's. Owned 2 (1/4-Ton Xtra Cab Long bed Truck & Corolla), both of them kept breaking and needing expensive repairs. That dam truck kept going through master cylinders, needed basically the front 1/2 of the engine re-done. And it had like 60K - 70K miles on it. Never really did any "work" either... some light moving is all. The corolla kept going through head gaskets (yes I had the heads re-done too) and it kept having cooling systems issues. Clutch replacements, etc.... GACK!!!!

Never had 1/10 the issues with either my GMC's or my 70 Nova.

Now on the other hand, my Dad had a Toyota pickup that I drove in HS, and I believe it's now on it's 3rd or 4th owner and it's still running (gotta have 200,000+ miles on it by now).

My first and only Toyota was a disaster, the repairs and parts are way too expensive. First a transmission (with integrated transfer case, so it's REAL expensive to rebuild), then a head gasket 2 months later. I decided to cut my loses ($4200!) on the 4runner.

I went ahead and gots me one of these:

Much nicer, and the parts are cheap and plentiful.
