3500+ Venice Core

3500+ Venice Core {Seems like E6 Stepping is the only difference}

3500+ Clawhammer Core

I've read that the E6 stepping has a better memory controller, so I was initially just going to go with that. Then I noticed the clawhammer core, and decided to look up some info on that. A couple pages led me to believe that the clawhammer core will lead to better OCs and more Stability.

What do you guys think?

Perhaps there is a similar priced processor I should be considering instead of this even? I'm a gamer, if it helps the decesion process at all.

The Venice core is the latest core that supports SSE3 (that the Clawhammer doesn't) and uses lower voltage.

I would get the Venice core over the Clawhammer.

I don't know the difference between the two to be honest. However considering the E6 is the latest revesion I'd probably say go for it.

That's what I was figuring, for 4$, it can't really hurt.

I think E6 are the better overclocking versions... I remember a rush of people trying to get them and some stores were listing the steppings to help out all the enthusiasts.

What about Opterons???

I hear rumor that even the cheapest Opteron will climb to 3GHz!!!

They also appear to be aligned closely to the same price as the Venice cores.

The 1xx series Opertons (in the Venus flavor) supports the same thing the Venice cores. However it's about $30 more expensive. And I'm not sure exactly what you're paying that $30 for.

I hear AMD upped the price of the opterons to try and keep the OCers from buying them and ruining the image of a business oriented processor.

Here is some good information as to how high folks are getting the Opty's.

I didn't feel the need for another thread, so how about an analysis of the current selection for my upcoming computer:

AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Venice

DFI Lanparty UT NF4 Ultra-D

Western Digital Cavior - 250gb 16mb cache SATA 3gb/s

Antec TruePower 2.0 550W

OCZ Performance 2GB pc3200 (2 x 1GB)

ViewSonic E90f+ 19" CRT

HIS x800GTO 256mb GDDR3 PCI-E x16

Any suggestions for substitutes here? I'm looking to stay in the same budget as I'm at right now, so no suggestions like a FX-57 or 7800GTX Razz

Thanks! Wave
