There are some companies Microsoft is determined to defeat. The funny thing is that, despite what you might think, we are not talking about Linux, but about companies which will make lots of money out of fields not related to operating systems.

Interesting idea, and one I would think Google has considered, possibly even have on it's roadmap. Wouldn't be a bad thing for many instances, especially most home systems.

Many aspects though I personally wouldn't want to rely on. But for the majority of the mass market, it wouldn't be a bad idea...

I love articles written by someone that has already made up their mind about a topic (i.e. MS is the devil).

LOL Aye, know what you mean. If it wasn't MS, it'd be another company we'd all be calling the devil...heck, we could all be calling Apple the devil because of how their hardware requires are...

Unless Google could come up with something like the modern DirectX SDK I highly doubt it would be a threat, at least as far as gamers are concerned. Why force game developers to consider other platforms, it takes development time and money away from the game, or the game is only released for one platform, its a lose-lose situation.

Remember that google makes it's money on advertising, dumping money in to repackaging some flavor of *nix would bring back very little return, sticking with allpurpose , free or mostly free O/S neutral web apps, provides the most AD/traffic directing revenue.

No doubt Google has some big projects in mind, take a look at the HUGE area at moffett field they intend to develop

but I doubt it's an O/S they're after.
Even MS is learning that it takes a lot of money to design a new modern O/S from the ground up.

Google has made solid products in the past, I wouldn't be opposed to seeing an OS from them...I wouldn't mind squeezing my mandrake partition a little in order to accomodate it.

Likely to happen? I think not.

Ummm, they are "learning" that? Maybe you have forgotten but MS has led the pack in OS design since windows 3.1 back in the 80's. I think if any group of people on the planet knows what it takes to make a good modern OS, it's Microsofts development team...
