As some of you may or may not know our oldest child has Autism. Misty constantly reads, and researches on this topic. One of the very common things she found was that many Autistic children have food allergies. She took him in today to get tested. Sure enough, he has major food allergies. He is allergic to:
Wheat
Corn
Milk
Almonds
Coco (chocolate)
Pork
Well... in one shape or another that takes care of 99.999% of what the boy eats. So Misty and I went to the grocery store tonight to look for things we can feed him. We did find somethings, and at least one of them he already shot down (soy yogurt... he loves normal yogurt). But we did find other things, such as those based on Spelt (a wheat flour substitute), Buckwheat (not the kid with the funny hair), and things like all beef hot dogs, and turkey bacon.
We looked at a lot of things and found corn syrup, whey (milk protein), and stuff like that that we will need to confirm with a nutritionist/doctor if he can or can't eat.
Sooo... what I am looking for? I'm hoping that either you, a friend or family member has some of these allergies and knows different foods, recipes, places to buy the stuff (cheap), etc...
Thanks!!!!!!!! |

A very close friend of mine lives in Hawaii and her son who is now 23 is Autistic. I don't think there is anyone who knows more than she does. She has lobbied the government for years and has been a huge advocate for Autistic children. I'll send her an email and see what kind of info I can get for you guys on this matter.
Please let me know if it is ok to send on your email addy to her. My friend is a the greatest/strongest person I have ever met. She will be of great help to you.
I remember driving down the road 10 years ago and Derrick freaking out because he had to go to the bathroom. He is sever Autistic ... luckily we had a Hardees cup available. Now we can sit through a movie at the theatre with him. This sounds silly to most people but a huge accomplishment for some
I will get what info I can for you |

My sister, strange though she is, believes that everyone is supposed to eat foods based on their blood types. As a "B", she's not supposed to have wheat products and eats a lot of Spelt bread and stuff like that. I'll see if she can send me some stuff, and I'll forwrad it on to you.

Yes, fruits are fine. However, he has a VERY limited diet, as do most Autistic kids. I've only been able to get him to try apples and grapes. He will occassionally, if in the right mood, eat a banana. So of course he gets these constantly, but his other food choices are limited to hotdogs, chicken nuggets, grilled cheese, string cheese, milk, mac n cheese, french fries and that's about it. I have not been able to get him to eat a vegetable in years. So you can see out of his limited diet most of those foods contain something to which he is allergic.... Hence the dilemma! |
