Excellent review!

My laptop has the Panasonic/Mat$hita CW-8121 drive (8x8x24) and I've been looking to upgrade it since it doesn't seem to support any DVD +/- R format I throw at it (regardless of media quality). Did you test this drive out with any burnt DVD's, by chance?

Obviously the UJ-815-B would be able to read them, but I certainly can't afford a $300 drive upgrade to an $800 laptop, haha.

Edit: vulgarity filter didn't like the mat$hita brand name ;-).

Hi eremitic3 - Welcome! Wave

Sorry, I don't have a DVD burner, or any burnt DVDs that could have been used in it. Ttat would have been a good thing to test, though!

Maybe if I behave well, someone will send me the UJ-815-B... Laughing

Howdy,

Well, you've whet our appetite - when will you be reviewing the UJ-815-B?! Smile I'm especially interested to hear if it's as fast and quiet as the CW-8122-B combo drive.

Did you notice if there was an S/P-DIF output (digital CD audio out) on the CW-8122-B?

Welcome JamieDK - Wave

I don't know if I'll ever see that UJ-815-B... but my mention of it in the review was to entice the sponsor to send me one of those, too... Laughing - We'll see how that goes!!

Also, there is no SPDIF... The IDE should carry the sound to your motherboard, which is how many modern systems do it now... There is a 4-pin analog audio connection on the separate adaptor I mentioned, but I didn't use it.
