HDD Question

Ok.... What would you do.... I need a decent size HDD for a SFF system. I'm between 3 choices..

All HDD's are 8MB Cache, 7200 RPM

1 - NewEgg - Hitachi 120GB, 3 yr warranty, Average Seek Time: 8.5 ms $91.00 no rebate

2- Office Depot - Maxtor 200GB, 1 yr watanty, average seek time: 10 ms $119.97 - $20 MIR = $99.97

3 - Best Buy - Western Digital SE 120.0GB, 1yr warranty, average seek time: 8.9 ms $119.97 -$30 WD MIR -$30 BB MIR = $59.97

Hmmmmmmmmm..... Hitachi is faster, and longer warranty, WD is cheapest and 2nd fasted, Maxtor is biggest and slowest.

My $.02 ONLY...

#4 Seagate 160 gig 8Mb $102.00 (The Barracuda SATA is only $109.00) (All the seagates have a 5 year warranty)

200 Gig is $117.50

I never get my rebates, my fault or thiers, I still don't get them....

Forget the Hitachi, I have sent 4 back to NE in last 8 months.

I guess I would go for the WD SE if you have better luck with Rebates.

Might want to consider SATA, even if you needa PCI card. I hate buying old tech!!! (I can make you a killer deal on an SATA RAID card too...) Grin

It's for a SFF system (Small Form Factor) so I only have room for 1 HDD, and it doesn't have SATA.... Sad

But hmmmmmmmm... that seagate does add a strong #4.... LOL

Wanna see my 1985 Seagate that still works? How about my 49MB Seagate that still works? That five year warranty probably won't even be needed. Razz

Not the point Dude..... the point is which product is probably better made?

1yr warranty, 3 yr warranty for 5 yr warranty? At least that is how I interpret the warranty.

Better made? We can eliminate WD right off with that one, Hitachi made the IBM Deathstars (I have a new Hitachi that was a replacement for a Deathstar and so far it's fine, but it's a lower quality HDD than the 7200.7), Maxtor is ok, but I've had a few of those die on me also.

I've never had any trouble with a Seagate in my computers or my customer's computers.
