A new Fry's opened in Concord, CA yesterday. Since this is 3 miles from work, I decided to go check it out...

15 minutes to find a parking spot...

45 Minute wait in line outside the store to get in...

Needless to say, I have yet to see the new Fry's.

I am going to attempt it again, take a sleeping bag, backpack, cup of joe, and a good book, wait in line.

They are almost giving stuff away all weekend, 25" TV's for $99.00, and 80% off of tons of stuff.

This is going to leave a mark... I will report back from my mission later!!!

I have a real love/hate thing with Fry's. I mean the place has a lot of cool stuff, but man their service sucks and so much of the stuff they have you end up having to return because it does not work. Don't try and write a check there either their policy on that sucks. Did I mention I have been escorted out of the local Fry's twice?

I do not do rebates, so therefore I dont buy much at Fry's. I just wanted to see the spectacle of it all and see if I could pick up some real cheap stuff...

I would not mind having that here, or even a best buy.... their prices are like a quarter of what we pay here for stuff. Grin

What's the issue, no one ships to Canada from here?

Why is that? Can't someone just get the stuff here and send it to you? If it's really that much of a markup, wouldn't the shipping still make it cheaper than buying at home?

I have seen this issue all over the forums and never quite understood.

They have tariffs on shipping items into the country... Remember Canada = Socialist Country. They need lot's of $$$ to run all those "free" programs.

YOu might be able to call it a sample or something like that, and custom's easier to bypass. I forget what the term is that gets a free pass, but it was necessary when sending stuff to Canada for IANAG.

Yeah it's the border taxes that kill, and the exchange rate. But the exchange rate is not so bad now, 1.3 I think. It's probably why stuff is so expensive to start off with. Stuff that is 50 bucks in the US is about 150 here. 100 if I get it from a wholesale supplier. It really sucks. I'm jealous when I hear of people building a computer for $500, because I build the same computer here but it costs $1,500 Grin
