If you can get higher speed memory for less, I would go for it. Backwards compatibility (ie using 2700 in place of 2100) isn't a problem, and if you ever upgrade your board have better stuff to work with.
PNY and Centon are probably similar quality, not bad, but not performance modules either... They will probably work great at stock speeds, any overclocking might be an adventure, and might not work at all.
I would have to check your board's specs, but the clerk may be right if the cpu and memory speeds are set to onlyuse pc2100 memory. Some boards allow the memory to be run faster than the cpu, and then you would see a slight bump when using pc2700 and setting that in the BIOS.
Got a link to your board's specs?

What he says.... BB Prety much covered it.
I think this is his board: http://www.fica.com/site/html/products/mb/detail.asp?cat_id=240000049&C_ID=240000346
You won't see any performance increase from a PC2100 to PC2700 on that board. But PC2700 should run in it just fine at PC2100 speeds. And if it's cheaper....
Also, nothing wrong with PNY memory... it's normally very solid RAM that will run at it's advertised speeds.... but probably not much more. |
