A friend sent this to me ... sounds a little to crazy to me. Wouldn't be that cost effective to the bread companies. But then my store uses different color coated security stickers each day. OK, you decide and who wants to go to the grocery store every day to find out? Wave

When you go to buy bread in the grocery store, have you ever wondered
which is the
freshest, so you "squeeze" for freshness or softness.? Did you know that
bread is delivered fresh to the stores five days a week? Monday,
Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Each day has a different color
twist tie. They are: Monday Blue --Tuesday Green --Thursday Red--Friday
White Saturday Yellow So if today was Thursday, you would ! want red
twist tie - not white which is Fridays (almost a week old)!
The colors go alphabetically by color Blue- Green- Red - White - Yellow,
Monday through Saturday. Very easy to remember.

wouldn;t say its true in canada, well toronto to be more specific.
At no frills (grocery store) where i work we get bread every day of the week but not on wednesdays. As far as color tags go. they dont really have a set color for each day it varies week by week.
But then again we chek bread everyday if it is going to expire within 3 days it goes on the reduce table.

Here's another thing you may wanna know, alot of the bakery items you find in store shelves. Actaully come into the store as frozen products. The store puts out what it needs and has a book which tells them how long to keep it on the shelf, so then we just date it, and the product just thaws out on the shelf Smile

of course that doesnt include stores who have their own bakeries in house

and alot of in store bakeries at chain stores recieve the bread dough as premade frozen loafs, they just thaw them and bake them as needed.. donuts too.
we had a local store of a large chain advertize that the cinnamon swirl bread was fresh made in store "this week only"
which just made it obvious that they don't really make anything there most of the time.
