Trying to accomplish a virtual office sort of setup.

Really quick before I start, here is what we have:

user1 - Main system (1.a) dual monitor - Windows Pro
Secondary computer (1.b) single monitor - Linux
user2 - Main system (2.a) single monitor - Windows Home
Secondary (2.b) single monitor - Linux

Now, what we want to do, is use our secondary computers to remote desktop into each other's main setups in view only mode, so we can in effect "be right next to each other". Now, I've tried a couple of remote desktoping services. They either A. Don't allow dual monitor viewing, or B. Refresh far too slowly, defeating the purpose of this setup.

Does anyone have any experience with view only remote desktoping that can basically transfer visuals real time (with dual monitors being a must)?

I've looked at VNC, however it seems that passwords are stored in plaintext, which I'm not a huge fan of. So if anyone has any alternative suggestions, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Joe

Only solution I know of is using all Linux with X over SSH. The X server is all on one, while the others just have a basic Linux install and connect to the X server. The X server does all the GUI rendering. There's very low overhead on the local desktop, while you'll need a good server, but you can have everything on one single system and login on multiple desktops....if my understanding what you've said is correct.

Ok, I'm not sure if that was exactly the question I had. To begin with, I'm sorry, I could've posed this question much simpler. Let me try that:

Basically, I want to use a Linux computer to remote desktop into a dual-monitor computer running Windows in a view only mode.

If what you'd said answers that question, then I'm sorry if I misunderstood. Otherwise, thanks for the input, and hopeful continued suggestions!

Joe.

Get a commercial version of VNC like: http://www.realvnc.com/products/personal/

Haven't ever tried it with Dual monitors so I can't speak to that. Generally... Remote control is not the same as direct access and you can not expect it to act like it. Just a limit you have to realize.

PcAnywhere actually does support dual monitors, you simply are viewing either a scrollable window, or a scaled view of the dual monitor setup. However, PcAnywhere is not very fluid in the same respect, where performance hits seem to be taken enough to be not worth it.
