In today's world, anybody can be toting a gun. ...even a little 5 year old. No one was hurt physically-so I dont see any harm in what the police did.

Everyone cries that they want the police to be tougher-except when it happens to be you, your family or your friends on the receiving end of a warrant or P.C. arrest/search.

Knight,
I agree that anyone could have a gun, but still think the the somewwhat less confrontational approach of using dogs while the kids were confined to their homeroom classes would have been better. That's what they used to do when I was in HS and it seemed to work just fine. Why even let the kids out in to the Halls? I'm wondering if they even bothered to check students cars? It just seems like it was more to scare the kids and make a point than to actually find drugs.

Ok... now it's my turn to talk.. Yikes

I believe that from the information in that story, Law Enforcement and the school were WAY out of line. They only comment was "drugs were out of control". No place in there did they say they believed that any students were armed. If Law Enforcement believed that by making a military style raid on the school was the best way to protect the lives of the kids, staff and their officers and they had creditable evidence to back that up with... THEN I would say they were correct in doing what they did.

However, just because someone MIGHT have a weapon, and you have no real reason to suspect they do, then you can NOT draw your weapon and point it at people.... SPECIALLY kids!!!

Obviously the little bit of tape we saw on TV was selected for it's shock value.
Every school has some drug traffic, and weapons inside.
The school thought they had a problem, and asked for the raid, (they already had the cameras watching the hall).
Was it overkill? Maybe. Columbine was just your typical school, until one day....

LOL I just thought of that day we had a raid in our school, but it did not involve students being checked, it was just the cops walking around checking out stuff.

Someone did a prank call and said someone in the school had a gun. There was 4 cop cars in the yard and a bunch of undercover vehicles. This was durring lunch, so at the next period the princaple just went class to class to explain what happen and to report it if anyone knows who did the prank, but also mentioned that it could be true so they are doing what they can.

And it was the police's duty to act even though 99% of chance was that it was a prank.

I wonder what would happen to that school if such prank was done. Grin
