DFI LanParty Ultra D NF4 Problems

first, my set up is as follows:

DFI Lanparty Ultra D socket 939
AMD 64 3700+
Antec Smart Power 500 watt
Nvidia 6600 pci express
Maxtor 200 GB ATA133
1GB PC3200

i finished setting up everything: mobo, cpu, hard drive, power supply, etc. and when i go to press tha power button, nothing happens.

not even a single fan starts up.

i know my Ultra D mobo is receiving power because those little yellow-orange lights located by tha 24 pin atx connector and by tha power switch connector are lighting up. but whats wierd is that when i press tha button to power up tha computer, nothing starts up.

any ideas? thanks

I would start by checking that the power switch wire is connected properly to the header on the motherboard. If it is, I would then remove the connector from the motherboard and attempt to start the system with a jumper. Just use something metal (a jumper from a hard drive, paper clip, etc) to temporarily connect the two pins intended to connect to the power switch.

If it doesn't start, we'll check other things...

You might also need to reseat your CPU (and possibly your RAM & Video Card too).

alright i figured out why it wouldnt turn on and i actually got everything to turn on.

but another problem occurs (theres always a new one right after tha old one...)

everything turns on and i can get to my BIOS. i tried running XP, but then it prompts me on how i want to start up windows (you know, safe mode, safe mode with networking, start windows normally, Last Known Good Configuration) and at first i tried start windows normally.

i waited a few seconds then tha screen went to black, then for a split nano-second it went to that blue screen of death and then quickly rebooted itself.

i then tried Last Known Good Configuration and same problem occurs. then i tried General Offical Way to Clear Cmos (which can be found here: http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showpost.php?p=224470&postcount=837 ) and i follow all directions and load optimized defaults. i then try with Start Windows Normally but same problem still happens. i then try my other options such as Safe Mode and Last Known Good Configuration.

still not working.

any ideas? i think ill have to reformat, but i hope not

Was the windows install you are trying to boot from created on that machine with all the same hardware?

no, actually, my hard drive was from a Socket A Sempron processor. and tha only new hardware besides tha mobo and power supply is tha CPU and video card.

would this make a difference? when i start up my computer, info on my monitor about my video card pops up (something like: "Nvidia 6600 128.0 mb.)

Yea, it's not going to work. You are going to have to reinstall windows. The only chance you have is to boot in safe mode and remove all motherboard and video related drivers (which is going to be most of them).

So either you format & install fresh, or you try to install over the top of your current install.

Yep, what he said, the only time you will have even the remotest chance at carrying a windows installation from one motherboard to another is if they use the same Chipset, and even then it will probably be flakey.

The differences between your old machine and new machine are almost everything.
