of course, if they don't do that, how can they keep selling chips:). computer sockets lkeep changing like every 6month to 1 year. It's unfortunate.

I don't really see a problem. Honestly, how often should you upgrade your CPU? I do it about once a year. This usually requires me to buy a newer and better motherboard.

In my opinion, the new sockets really are justified. Especially if they find a way to improve them and make them faster.

This is the price of progress; Welcome to capitalism.

I have to agree with ice nine. Every time i upgrade my cpu i upgrade the whole damn system. I might keep HD and optical. But Mobo, ram, gfx all get changed about every year and a half.

I used to do that... but not any more. I pretty much wait 2 yrsish for a complete upgrade anymore. In the last couple of years we've simply gone from a slower version of the Athlon/P4 to faster versions.

Yea, they both came out with 64 bit version, but no software OS support. Now there is OS support but little to no software.

And what sucks for me is right now I have a ATi 9800 Pro that still keeps up with all games I need... but to upgrade to a new mobo I have to get a new video card. Bang Head

Guess age, and having kids & a mortgage change your upgrade schedule....

I have 2 systems in my room. My htpc. It is a64 3200+ running a LFS custom distro.

And my main computer which is my gaming machine A xp 3000. Hell the a xp plays HL 2, Doom 3, Far cry, Sims 2, UT 2k4 all effortlesly. I upgrade every year and a half. But the tech i upgrade to is always the previous year. Hardware is to expensive to be early adopter.
