Sharp aquos 26" HDTVs have DVI in and say they can be used as a pc monitor. The resolution though is 1366x768?? Seems good for tv but not for a monitor. Right? I wanted to get something to watch movies and play games on(5.1), but also use for other apps.

How about widescreen for games?

Thanks! Wink

You can use an application called Powerstrip (its free, google for it).

It allows you to set any custom resolution output for your video card.

THis should allow you to play with resolutions and find the one that works the best for your particular setup.

...and welcome to BigBruin!!!!

Cool thanks! I'm still limited by that 768 part though right? My 17" monitor is at 1280x1024. It seems like it would be really big, or grainy, for text.

Nope Powerstrip allows any resolution on both sides.

Thanks for replying. Its a lcd monitor(tv) though, so it's limited by the native resolution.

Has anyone used this as a monitor before?

Powerstrip allows you to set your video card output to match the native resoultion of your new LCD monitor.

Your question makes me think you are thinking about this the wrong direction!!!

There really is only one way to do this, trial and error.

Yeah, not having bought it yet though would be expensive trial and error. I hoped someone who had already tried it could clue me in....

I just got a HDTV that supports 1080i and 720p, and I run it in 720p for movies and general web surfing... thats 1280x720 resolution. The screen isn't as tall as I am used to, but it looks great! But, I can still go back to other non-wide screen resolutions in the control panel, and it looks really nice still...
