WOW!!! That's an amazing overclock!!! 
I haven't read the whole article (at least not yet...  ), but maybe the one he got had a good stepping and/or low VID??? Did he managed to get this overclock with air cooling only??? What ere is temps?
I'd still go with a E8400 which overclocks quite good as well, just to be on the safe side.

Overclocking really varies from chip to chip and will also be impacted by your motherboard and RAM so I wouldn't buy that CPU and assume you will be able to get a 1Ghz+ OC out of it. The E5200 also has a much lower cache which will also impact performace.
If you are primarily gaming I would skip the aftermarket CPU heatsink (as long as you have a decent case) and put it in your graphics card. I am running a E8500 with a nice heatsink. I overclocked it to 3.8Ghz for a while but there wasn't any noticable difference in games so I am running at stock speads right now. In gereal, if you have a decent CPU your gaming experience will be limited by your graphics card, not your CPU. Since it souds like you are on a budget I would look at the ATI HD 4770. This card can play CoD and similar games at your resolution with some AA and maxed out settings and still get ~60fps. A 4870 is a very strong card but will cost you a decent bit more ($100 US for a 4770 vs. $185 US for a 4870). At your resolution a 4770 should give you enough to keep you and your wallet happy. |

in most of the benchmarks I have seen the 4770 performs almost the exact same as a 4850.

I have a 4870 and I am very happy with it. It plays FC2 and Crysis without any problems on a 19" widescreen monitor. I bought the cheapest one I could find and put an aftermarket cooler on it to bring the temps down and to make it quiet (very noisy stock fan). Between the card and the cooler I spent ~ $200 ($170 for the card + $25 for a used after market cooler). |

I game at 3.75Ghz using my E5200. VID at 1.3625v, aircooled. The 45nm E5000 is really the equivalent of the 40nm HD4700 in the gaming world. Best bang-for-the-buck CPU and GPU combo |

I'd go with 4770 and then start saving money to purchase another one in the future, in order to run 2 4770s in CrossFire and get a performance equal to GTX285.
