I had a pair of HD3870 Toxic (factory overclocked) in CrossFire... And I have had a 9800 GTX+. On the same system, the CrossFire setup beat the single 9800 GTX+ by about 1700 points on the GPU score in 3DMark Vantage Performance.

So, I would say that the HD3870 CrossFire combo would dominate the single original 9800.

But how much is 1700 points really matter games, or over all performance in games or software apps?

Well, depending on the game, a big improvement in frame rates. Double digit % at the minimum, some games triple digit %.

Downside for a CrossFire setup... You're going to use much more power.

Not familiar with that PSU, but a good 750W will be fine. Just meant that you will be running up a bigger electric bill. Maybe 75W more AC needed.

To be honest, I would get the 9800GT and the money I will save on bills or a potential PSU upgrade can go to a future card, or if a better deals comes up.

I think the HD4870 would be your best option, but if you're going for an exchange, it's worth it.
