i have a budget of $320

i have a ati 9550 128 mb now and i would liek to upgrade my agp system.

i was thinking of that card but the 8 pipe lines is bugging me. so i might over clock it 40 mhz or so to get a little more outa it or 100 mhxz max... last 6800 bfg i had burned outa after 47mhz Bang Head

so i dont wanna risk it...

the 512 mb is for the best screen resolution i can get and the speed i hate lag. this card si the only 1 in my budget i can find i want it to be around $320 dollars canadian after shipping and tax.

is this worth it? any betetr cards for my money?

ps: im a heavy gamer i play

screen resouliton high and the visual details on high with x2 or x4 aa is what i like ... lol so basicaly every thing.

To be honest, I don't think I could justify spending that much on anything AGP. Especially looking at your signature and seeing you have a 939 processor and plenty of good stuff in your system.

My guess is that you could get a whole new motherboard that supports PCIe and get a PCIe graphics card and being within your budget... With the benefit of greater performance and future upgrades (although limited with AM2 arriving).

$320 is $283 US... Man you can get some good stuff for that!

i dont think i am ready to go to pci-e yet...... i want to get the most out of this mobo first.... Grin

im thinking of makeing a new sli system in about a year or so........

so that card is not worht it or u say no because u think i should not be agp?

and yes the ram is ddr400 mhz twinx

I had the non-SLI version of that board, and it was nice! I'd vote for that.

I am not the best reference on graphics cards (my two best are a X800 GTO and two 6600GTs), so I think it comes down to what you want to spend.

Hopefully others will chime in with their experiences...

i want to lower the cost of this upgrade to $320-$330 the max!

I would say to definetly get a new MB and PCI-E card...

I evaluated an AGP 6800 256 against a PCI-E 6600 256. The 6600 256 only lagged about 2% behind the 6800. At that time, the 6800 256 was about $400, while the 6600 was 250.

End result was my 6600 was SLI read, after the prices dropped could toss in a second and was running SLI, and easily trumped the 6800AGP. Plus I was able to get a better card later (now running a 7900GT KO Superclock.

When I originally bought my first PCI-E MB (still in use today) along with the video card, I spent $400 that I would've spent on the 6800AGP. But as I said, I was able to upgrade that system down the road at a lower cost.

Ok, that's long winded. All in all, get a SLI MB, and a PCI-E card. You'll be happier you did, when later you just spend a little cash to buy the 2nd video card (or a totally new more powerful card). Especially since you already said you want to build a SLI box in a year or so (by then you'll need new ram, mb, cpu).

If I have a day or so, I'll see if I can find my old benchmarks, and run it against the 7300GS I have in my other machine (that I originally had the 6600's in). That shoudl give a little indication about the low 7000 series.

ahh well i guess if im going sli it will.... wow 512mb in total :> :p

but i realy cant spend that much man its alot..... ahh but the rebate should help me pay for the electricity bill this thing will be useing Razz
