Ever see this?

When I turn the power to a system in a new case off, the case power LED comes on. When I start the system, the LED goes off.

Thinking maybe it was just wired backwards (which didn't make sense at all considering what was happening), I reversed the wires to the motherboard header. Now the LED is off when the system is off, but is so faint when the system is on that you think it is still off.

Any ideas? Bang Head

Nope, LED are polorized and it's a DC current so it SHOULDN'T be on at all with the connector reversed.
The fact (if we can trust BB's observation) indicates a defect.
Assuming you have the right header do you have a spare LED/wire/plug to recheck that the MB is normal? if so
I'm guessing a factory miss/crosswiring in the front panel harness or a MB to case short or a PSU defect, in order of probability.
None are good. Might be RMA time

Yeah...what t-shirt said. It's like it's getting power incorrectly. Potential bad mobo!

I need to check the PSU... I am unsure it is good, but everything other than the case is old and has been working for years.

I'd still put PSU pretty low on the list (SHOUDN'T be subject to reversed polarity, but bad ground, or short/disconnected wire COULD (maybe Confused ) cause this)
I'd spend the most time checking the front panel wiring

I'll have to take a look at the front panel I guess... A few PSUs all do the same thing. I even put those paper washers in around the mobo screws... Laughing I will scrounge for a separate LED to test, too.

I am now also noticing that alomst any time I touch the case I get a little shock... not good.

But, why is power even available to the LED when the power is killed?

You have a short somewhere...

That, or it's winter time and you need a humidifier!
