A: Drive, help

I have a new system that is together and, up and running. However when I try to open a floppy it says "disk not formatted" although it is. Also when I try to format a disk (just for kicks), it says "Windows unable to complete formatting" (or thereabouts). What could this be?

Been so long I almost forgot what a floppy was. Bad floppy drive, bad ribbon cable, bad floppy disk. Bound to be one of the three.

Also make sure it's configured for the right type of floppy in the BIOS (Should be a 1.44mb)

I replaced the floppy once for a different reason, I tried a different cable, and I have tried multiple disks. The BIOS is set for 1.44. I haven't any idea why its doing this. ????

i have noticed this happens...there is a chance your drive could be bad my step brother bought a brand new one for his pc and it was doing the smae thing...so i gave him one of my old ones and it worked fine...

I was going to suggest what Cheeze just did... I have a few drives without keyed data connections, and I occasionally put the cable on the wrong way... Powers up, but no access.
