Graphics Tablet

My girlfriend is an amazing artist. She paints, sketches, sculpts... She's good at everything. Her birthday is coming up and I want to get her into graphic design. She loves photoshop, but she uses the touchpad on her laptop. Instead of buying her a stupid optical mouse, I want to get her a USB graphics tablet. Does anyone have any experience/recommendations in these? Price range is $100-250, is that reasonable?

Check out www.pvponline.com - As I recall, there used to be something there about all the equipment he uses on a daily basis to produce his cartoons.
