Newegg still has 9800pro cards, but the one I found was $278.00

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-102-290&depa=1

Not sure about this card, but it is under $200.00 (looks to be a non pro 9800)

Looks to me that everything else right in the 200-250 price range from ATI is PCIe based like the X600XT, X700XT.

I am not up on my Nvidia products enought to be of any help...

I am playing Doom 3 on my 9700 pro I have had forever and its working very nicely. I am however ready for an upgrade myself, I am just waiting for the NForce 4 chipset socket 939 motherboards to come out so I can use a PCIe card.

When that happens I will get an X800XT and never look back.

My issue is spending ANY money on another AGP card just to have my next motherboard not support AGP.

I think that (with limitations) Doom 3 will play acceptably on a 9600XT even.

The only 9800 Pro you can get in the $200 - $250 range is the 9800 Pro 128MB, not a 256MB card.

The 6600 Series is PCI-Express... and they do in fact preform much better than a 9800Pro.

okay so the 6600 is pci express so thats a no to that one then since i only have agp... grrrrrr....

anywho looks like the 9800 pro for now... i was reading that since im running an lcd monitor i dont really need the 256 since that really only helps at higher resolutions that my monitor isnt capable of.... is that correct??

....sorry if im becoming annoying lmao... this is my first build and im still lernin

Well yes and know. It CURRENTLY helps in the higher resloutions, but as more advanced games come out, they will use more memory.

I right now have a R9800 Pro 128MB and I'm happy with it. But I also don't play too many games.
