Memory help!!

sorry if this has been asked before *n00b* but i recently purchased a new asus a8v deluxe (it reviewed well) and i need ram to go w/ it... I have no idea on what to buy/ look for... what should i look for in ram? i have no idea what the 3-2-3 thing is or any of that... this is the first system im building! Any help is appreciated TY!

asus a8v deluxe (939)
athlon 64 3400+

-I got the newegg special lmao 299 after rebate, good deal...

im not sure what im doing for my hd if that matters and im ordering the x-blade case from a-top w/ 400 watt power supply and a 9800 pro video card (probably going w/ a 10,000 rpm drive)

I found out some bad news about that chip!! so im upgrading to the 3500+ for 13$ so i now need memory for this chip lmao!

Depending on what you will use your system for you could buy
simple stick of 512 pc2700 for around $90- using pc for email, surfing web, medium games, and just normal stuff.

then theres a whole gig of pc4200 if you do video editing, photoshop and stuff like that. not sure on price

or dual channel memory like 2x 256 of pc3200 or 2x512 pc3200 for good games. I recomend corsair or ocz- go for about $129

your motherboard should be able to handle anything from pc2700 to pc4200. check your mobo info: should look like this:
RAM: 3x DIMM for Dual-Channel DDR400/333/266 Max 3GB
this can handle pc3200 pc2700 and pc2100 up to 3 gigs

Well it sounds like your building a very solid high performance system. And with that being the case, you'd want your RAM to follow that theme.

You also need to decided if your planning on OverClocking? If So you'll want at least some PC4000, if not I would recommend some PC3200 Low Latency stuff (which will still most likely overclock).

I would also suggest looking at 2 - 512MB matched sticks (for 1GB total). 512 really is the minimum any more, and 1GB is what I would call the minimum for a performance PC.

Try taking a look at the Corsair XMS Low Latency memory

and on another note now, i dont wanna keep spamming/ annoying but on the hd's i know im going to get a sata150 but on like newegg when it says oem drive only that means theres no cables or anything correct?? my psu should have it though and my mobo came w/ those so that wouldnt be a problem correct?

right now im thinking just a 120 western digital... I DONT KNOW WHY EITHER

are the barracuda drives any good?? i read somewhere that untill the .8 series comes out they really arent

Excellent memory choice FOX...

As for HDD's, I have a couple of the Seagate 120 SATA drives and love them.

For future compatibilty and speed, might I suggest going with the newer SATA II or (2) drives that support NCQ.

This is the future of SATA and might be nice to have even if your MB of choice doesn't support NCQ right now.

(Google NCQ for an explanation)

the seagate has a 5 yr warranty which is good but if it crashes in 5 years im not going to care at that opint lol.... this is the sata II which you said is good as well as the ncq... on the asus a8v i know it supports the sata and raid and all the good stuff but im not sure about the ncq and sata II ill look into that a bit more here

im probably going to be ordering this stuff tomorrow when i get bored
