How come you can't build one any more?

Other than that, it looks fine. Just remember HP doesn't come with restore disk (You'll have to make them), and comes pre-loaded with lot's of crap software. Other than that, we bought one for the kids, and it works pretty good.

Just not home to receive parts via UPS/Fedex/USPS. I'm away from home from 4am Monday to 6PM Thurday, then gone most of the day Friday to make bank run and pay bills in the next town over.

My front door, and high traffic sidewalk. Things would disappear if left at my door. Even my mail disappears sometimes.

OK... so I take 80 West to truck Route 28. See you around midnight! Grin

That sucks.

I guess that looks like a good machine. Inflated price for what you could probably put together, though. But 6GB? Seems odd.

pssstt.. careful with the cops.. I use to drink and ...um....smoke with them. My house is patrolled and gets a couple walk arounds a day/nite while I'm gone.

yeah, I imagine theres some inflated pricing going on - but I really cant do anything else. I stopped in at 3 of the PC shops in my town and the neighboring town and to see if I could order parts through them and pick them up on fridays - they wanted 1.5 to 3 times the newegg prices. A comparable system was about $2500.

You could always get a PO/Mail box. Then you can pick up the stuff when ever you have a chance. I used to do that.

Cheezy's right, get one of those private mailboxes that will accept deliveries.

Other than that it seems like an ok machine but I agree that it's a bit pricey for what you get. 6Gb is weird, what's up with that? Even if you spent the same amount of money building your own you would have a better rig and at least know what you had in it. Off course you already know that, we know that you know that, so I don't know why we are even telling you what you already know. Know what I mean Grin..................................slow night and as you may already know, I'm easily entertained. Laughing

If you do decide to go with a pre-made system, look into ABR (Activation Backup and Restore), assuming you have Vista. You will still need to burn the restore disks, but it will save you the hassle of going through the activation rigmarole every time you decide to wipe things clean and start over. It has to be run on the manufacturer installed system, so once you wipe things clean it can't be used.

You know what guys... even after pricing a comparable system out at Newegg - its cheaper to go with the HP prefab unit by $100 or so.

The only real upgrade over the HP prefab is the mobo, (2)GB more ram and maybe the video card by a very small margin.

Would I go with that or the HP? Maybe the HP. Why? Cause for the HP I unbox and go, with that I have to do all the hard work.

Heck - even for the one you posted there really isn't much $$ difference. Then when you add on the postal mail box rental, adding the new shipping address to the credit card(coz Newegg and Tiger are d!cks about addy matching), etc - its virtually just the same..

I'm gonna get the HP and forgo any shipping hassles. Plus at that if something croaks - I only have to deal with one warranty.

I was digging on HP's site, that pc uses a Asus mobo and has onboard RAID with 6 SATA-II connectors. If I out grow the factory case - I can cheaply transplant things into a bigger unit.
