Athlon XP2400+ (1.8GHz) vs. Athlon 64 3200+ (2.0GHz)

Right now I've got the Athlon XP2400+ 1.8GHz OC'ed to 2.4GHz.
Would I lose performance by upgrading to the Athlon 64 processor 2.0GHz? I would obviously try to OC the Ahtlon 64 too...

Let me know as this will influence my decision making!

Yes and no...

I have an overclocked Athon XP-M 2600+ @ 2625mhz.. It performs on par with a friend's 2400mhz OC'd skt 939 Athlon 64 with applications that are CPU dependant. In fact, it lays the smack down on my friend's A64 on certain benchmarks. But when memory or other buses are brought into factor, my XP get beat.

why are you thinking about upgrading? I pretty much do a full cpu socket upgrade once I have to with another mb or new technology.

I know I have to upgrade, I'm just asking if there's much value added going with an equivalent speed processor, doesn't appear so. I might just sell the card on eBay...

Dont sell it... just hold onto it and upgrade to a better CPU.

AMD just did a massive price cut on CPUs due to Intel's Conroe chips being released.
