Ok, I just picked up the eVGA 256-P2-N569-SG eVGA "Signature Series" GF7900 GT 600 MHz card. Under normal operation the card is realtively quiet, but when gaming, the fan comes on and is really loud. I have a fairly quiet case (Antec P180) and it's still loud enough to be annoying. I checked the temp and it's at around 61 C. Is this normal?

Looks, and sounds about normal for a stock cooler. If you want it quieter, look into getting an aftermarket cooler. Will cut down on the noise, and give better cooling.

Of course understanding you are most likely voiding your warranty when you do. Sad

Thankfully not with eVGA. In fact, the card that I used to test the recent VGA coolers, the 7800GT, they gave me full credit towards the 7900GT a few weeks back. They even mentioned that as long as the cooler is certified for that series of cards, it's permitted.

But yes, I've found the eVGA standard fans to be loud. The 7900GT KO Superclock (just below the signature) is loud as well. Can't wait for Arctic Cooling to release the Accelero S1 (supposed to be compatible with the 7900GT series....

Aye, I got it because it had better specs than the others for the cost, plus that they allow o/c and replacing the fan.

Then I found out about their step up (full purchase credit within 90 days for a newer card), and that sealed the deal for me.

In Jan I bought the 7800GT, planned to upgrade to 7800GTX 512 in Mar. In Fed the 7900 came out, so upgraded to the 7900GT, only cost me the price of shipping....plus they also upgraded everybody to the KO Superclock because of their back-order on cards....

Ok, so I'll look out for the Arctic Cooling Accelero S1.

Someone else suggested the Zalman vf-700cu or the KuFormula VF1 Plus

What do you think?
