Supposedly they are fixed now, a 9800 chipset unless re-marked somehow by nVidia will have the new solder process and not subject to the overheating and dying problems plagued by the 7600/8600 mobile chipset. At least that's what I have been assured by HP. I'm one of the lucky ones I gues. I have a late 2005 early 2006 HP dv8320 with a 256MB 7600 and plowed along for a couple years playing World of Warcraft on the unit with never a hitch. It is now relegated to HTPC duty but the 7600 never did develop a problem and used to get really really warm. I did replace the bubblegum factory heat pads on the gpu and cpu though with some arctic silver once I heard there were issues. |
