I recently picked up a new machine that has an X54 card slot and now I feel the need to fill it with something. I have done a few searched but haven't really found anything I needed with the exception of one thing. So far the leader on my list is the Mogo X54 bluetooth mouse; it seems pretty cool and I think I am going to get one but I am wondering if there is something better. But I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a cool device that would use the slot.

Truth be told I would love a cell modem and one is avaialble for the PCI express slot internal to the machine but I am too cheap.

I thought about the TV tuner but most I have seen are USB so I wasn't sure if there was an advantage to X54 over those. But I know I don't need one...not even sure if I could get reception out where I live. But if nothing else catches my eye it might be fun to play with.

It should be an advantage over X54 ones, think they`re faster than USB

there are some TV tuner uses the express card. Though USB is more common due to the fact that usb can be sold to be used as desktop as well.

You can also use that slot for add-on card such as sound card, firewire, esata ports, even SSD

I had seem the SSD but they seemed to be painfully slow when compared to SATA versions and I do not think I can make them bootable. If I could use it as a bootable that would be interesting, though I think the mini PCIe SSD might be a bit faster.

Look for an expresscard tv tuner that supports a digital antenna. Should be able to pickup atleast some channels that way and while probably not truly worth it could be something geeky for it Wink

Otherwise, apparently you can pickup a parallel port card...might be useful Confused
