It is, as long as the base is flat enough. When working with the Wolfdales, highend coolers aren't really the concern. Overclocks will hit the safe voltage limit far before thermals become a problem.

It's the best air cooler I've ever used, approaching water cooling temps. It is one big honker though.

In an ultra Grid case I had a while back it barely cleared the side and I had to remove the blow hole fan to do it. After install I was messing around with the front off the case and reached in and 5 pieces of paper wouldn't go between the side and the TRUE heat sink.

That's close.

you can definately save with getting a TR 120 Ultra with temps close to water cooling. I use one and it's great!

Gotta flatten the base though, definately needs some work. The machined base can have nasty grooves.

I don't know as much about OC'ing as cooling to a degree, but I have heard that the TR 120 delivers nothing short of fantastic performance, bar none for air cooling.

The TRUE, the Thermalright IXF-14 and the new Prolimatech Megalahems are far and away the best air coolers on the market. They are all quite large, and generally fairly expensive, but nothing touches them if you are planning to overclock on air.

sold my Zalman 9700LED and bought Noctua NH-U12P. Zalman wont do much cooling on my Q6600 running at 3.6OC. Now, my idle temps are 36,36,30,30 and average temp under load is 62C

but i think the real question for the thread starter is:
LOOKS or PERFORMANCE??

LOOKS= CNPS 9700 LED (modders)

PERFORMANCE = TrUExtreme (overclockers)

it's up to him..
