I'm thinking of purchasing Demigod, is it worth the investment?

I got the game a few months back to get into the beta. As for retail impressions, if you liked the Defense of the Ancients maps for WC3, you'll love it. Makes just enough changes to keep things fresh. I absolutely love the demigod and map designs, very creative. The unit balance also seems to be decent from what i've played so far.

The major issue with the game right now is network connectivity in multiplayer games. The game seriously needs a few patches to fix all of the issues. Joining custom games works fine, but the P2P nature of the netcode means at least one person is likely to drop out from the game due to connection issues. The dropout time is also unusually short. I haven't even been able to get a game going with Pantheon (the matchmaking/ladder system), though other people have had more success.

This takes more importance because there isn't a single player campaign mode. There a skirmish and tournament mode, which plays like multiplayer games with bots. Would have loved to see a campaign, the characters are interesting.

Been keeping track on the Demigod forums and they seem to be working to fix the problems. There's already a day 2 patch released so i'm looking forward to see if I can get some Pantheon games working.

Also forgot to mention that the AI for single player tournament mode seems to be borked. Normal is ok, but turning on hard mode seriously screws with your allied bot AI. The enemies play intelligently, but your allied AI never retreat when they are low on health and they end up feeding experience points to the enemy. Seeing some of your bots with over twice the deaths of the enemy is not uncommon, even when you try to babysit em. Only won 2 of over 10 tournament games because the enemy didn't backup their base as I portal rushed them from the side.

The difficulty modes on skirmish mode are fine thankfully.
