Quote:
Bankrupt Circuit City Stores Inc., the nation's second-biggest consumer electronics retailer, said Friday it failed to find a buyer and will liquidate its 567 U.S. stores. The closures could send another 30,000 people into the ranks of the unemployed.

"This is the only possible path for our company," James A. Marcum, acting chief executive, said in a statement. "We are extremely disappointed by this outcome."

While this is nothing in terms of thousands of people losing their jobs... I was annoyed to learn last week that huge ad networks continued to let Circuit City place banner ads ON CREDIT even after declaring bankruptcy. Needless to say, the ad networks aren't going to eat the loss, so publishers have to. In the end it means money gets sucked back out of the Bigbruin account. Not a huge deal, but multiply that over thousands of sites and it seems like someone should have seen it coming and prevented it.

Plus... Our local mall is starting to look pretty sad with Circuit City and Linens and Things closing, plus other stores like Radio Shack just bailing out.

Just went out and I saw that the Circuit City closing sale is already going! "Up To 30% Off" right now.

Is this just a Jersey thing, or do stores going out of business hire people to stand on the main roads with signs for their sales elsewhere? Seems like a waste... You're going out of business, but you'll pay a few dozen people per store to stand out in the freezing cold to shake signs at cars. Recently it seems like it could be a full time job for some people... Always someone going out of business, and they always have sign holders out there.
