Some Seagate drives are going to a 3-year warranty on January 3, 2009!

Looks to be true for bare drive purchases like Barracuda and Momentus models.

Hmmmm... the 5yr warrant was a selling feature to me.

Now... when I shop for HDD's other manufactures will have the door opened for them. Not a smart move there Seagate.

I agree, not a very smart move on their part, but at least the Retail drives keep the full warranty.

Bummer, was a major selling point for me as well. Like others, I'll be checking the other manufacturers out now...

i honestly bought my drives bc of the 5 year warranty... that basically told me it wasnt going to break and i have actually had a drive fail 3 times at the four year point so it saved me some bucks
