Anyone else here folding on GPU?

Point is that at the beginning (upon the start of their new GPU2 client), I was receiving 98 points worth WU's with 5000 steps, which took around 50mins to complete (so around 2400points per day)...then...10K steps units started...which took around 6 hrs...and were credited with some 500-600 points (so again around 2000-2400 points per day)...and today...I noticed 100K steps WU (had to double check cause i first thought its 10K Grin )...and...this one takes around 15mins per step...so around 25hrs per WU...and is credited with "only" 1820 points (that means around 1770 points per day)... Mad Bang Head Confused

I remembered acruxksa's words....that when these projects come out of beta...they'll be credited lower...but hey...to credit such large WU's which take alot longer and consume more resources, almost 1000 points less....that just sucks. Crazy

We'll see....meanwhile....let the folding continue... Grin

I just focus on CPU Folding. Easier for me.

And, I got the 'diskless' folder going again... Even though I boot from CD, I leave a flash drive in there for data storage... It apparently wouldn't start again because the flash drive data was corrupt. Just had to format that to get it up and running again.

I also noticed that from time to time...client goes into some sort of sleep mode...maybe after several unsuccessfull attemps of trying to get work data (server problem probably...or too many connections)...and....it needs to be restarted to startup again. Mad

That generally wouldnt be a problem at all, but i lost several night of folding because this happened in mid-night...and i only found that out in the morning...cant they just let that "try to get work data" mode on nonstop...or to try every 10mins or so... Grin Laughing Bang Head

Good luck with diskless solution Dr.F. Wink

I decided to boot up the old F@H client on one of my idle servers here at work. Either their Linux client really blows the big one, i did something *really* stupid while setting it up, or these SUN servers aren't as good as I thought.

Specs are:
The servers are Dual-Core 2.2Ghz Opterons with 2GB of RAM, maybe they just aren't meant to do this kind of work. I setup one as a sort of test run, and it finished a 100-point WU in a day and a half or so.

Hmmm...very strange indeed... Confused

The cpu is fast enough...also 2GB of ram is more than enough...but 100 points per day....that just sucks... Crazy Yikes Mad Bang Head

Are you sure it wasnt 1000 point (because i havent seen 100 point CPU WU yet)? Rolling Eyes Confused

Anyway...all i can think about atm is that either linux client sux that much (which i kinda doubt)...or maybe some configuration isnt ok...orrrrr...the server isnt idle!?

Problem is that i dont know how linux client looks and/or works...but if its similar to windows client...then you could at least check its config...and maybe set core priority to higher...and same for CPU usage (set it to max - 100%)...and make sure the highly optimized assembly code isnt disabled.

Maybe Dr.Feelgood or someone else here knows more about linux clients?

Report back if you find a solution, ok?

Were you using the standard linux client or the linuxSMP beta client? The point value leads me to believe you setup the standard client.

Yeah, its the standard client. (It is running on a server with integrated graphics, afterall) I still thought the standard console-based client would push out more than that on a pretty good server Sad

The standard client will only use one core so you could increase production by running two of them. Each in a separate folder with the -local flag. The SMP client will produce more points per day, but would probably load the server quite a bit to do it.

BB.com will break the 3million point mark today!!!!!!!! Seems like just a short time ago we broke 2million. We should also surpass Newegg's forum eggxpert in a day or two as well.
