The Notre Dame Club of Northern New Jersey is just weeks away from staging
its 15th annual Bookstore Basketball Tournament on Saturday, May 31st (see
tournament rules below) at Volunteer Park in Parsippany, awarding the tournament champion with the Club's world renown "Six Pack of Guinness" trophy, and raising funds for the Bookstore 2003 kids charity recipient (see below for info on charity and how to make donations).

To date, several teams have expressed an interest in playing but not all have fully confirmed their participation. If you plan to play, Commissioner Craig Lombardi would appreciate notification as soon as possible to facilitate scheduling and the ordering of shirts (all players will receive a commemorative Bookstore 2003 T shirt).

Depending on the number of teams that enter and feedback from the public, the Club may add a twist by awarding a "Six Pick of A&W Root Beer" trophy to the team that wins our "NIT" bracket - i.e., first round playoff losers will playoff to win our "NIT" - in this way teams that are a year or two (or ten) away from effectively competing for the Guinness can still get a feel for championship round play. Please note the Commissioner came up with this idea by himself, so if it doesn't pan out or is not welcomed by the masses, please do not mock or bury Club officers with mail.

As in past years, this Club sponsored tournament will raise funds from entry
fees and corporate/personal donations that are donated to charities
dedicated to helping children. Last year, the Club donated close to $1000 to
St. Peter's Orphanage in Denville. Proceeds from Bookstore Basketball 2003
will be donated to Neighborhood House, a long time community center in
Morristown servicing the educational and recreational needs of lower income
children from area communities.

Corporate/personal donations to be allocated for the Bookstore 2003 charity
recipient, Neighborhood House, can be made out to "Notre Dame Club of North
Jersey" and mailed to Commissioner Lombardi's "office" (see below for
address).

In addition to a day of full court hoops, Peerless Beverage and Guinness have sponsored a post tournament party for the past few years at the Half Point Pub in Whippany in honor of the fact that our tournament champ is awarded the aforementioned Six Pack of Guinness Championship "trophy". We expect that Peerless Beverage and Guinness Beer will again sponsor a post tournament party - so stay tuned.

Rules and regulations of Bookstore Basketball - North Jersey style.

Games will start at 9 am - come early to warm up. Bring one dark and one
light shirt. Teams generally play 2 or 3 games to determine seeding for the
single game elimination playoffs. The tourney champion will be awarded the
Club's "Six Pack of Guinness" trophy. The Championship Game usually ends
around 12:30/1 PM. We plan to have refs for the championship and (probably)
semi final games.

Each team must have at least 1 player who is affiliated with Notre Dame
and/or the Notre Dame Club of North Jersey as a student, graduate, dues
paying member, or parent of a current student. Games are 5 on 5. Most
teams have 1 or 2 subs.

The entry fee is $20 per player. Each player will receive a commemorative
Bookstore 2003 item to be determined.

To register for the tourney or to get more information, contact Craig
Lombardi at:

Address: 1480 RT 46

Individuals without a team are encouraged to show up on game day because they will either be welcomed by other teams as a valuable sixth man or joined with other individuals to create "expansion" teams. If you want to play, the Club will find a spot for you.
