Another thread here got me thinking about removing my X-Fi card, so I did it. Realtek ALC883 sounds good and I cannot notice any loss of frames in games yet. I need to put it through it's paces. Anyone else have experience with these two sound options? Comments are welcome. I am using Vista Ultimate, and the X-Fi drivers are not that great.
I went from the onboard sound (DFI SLI-DR) which is realtek based to an old creative Live! card. I noticed a difference. My sound is fuller and all of the tinniness is gone.
I put my X-Fi back in. I think I could live with the Realtek sound since it is comparable, but having an X-Fi makes it worthwhile to use it. I am still patient on Creative drivers. I will unlikely buy another Creative card until they prove they can support them.
